Developing Age-relevant Design Guidelines for Voice Dialog through Digital Assistants

A growing number of emerging technologies rely on voice interactions from a user to a digital assistant (e.g., Amazon Echo). More research is needed to better understand how to design effective voice dialogs with voice-first technologies, especially regarding the potential influence of age-related changes on these interactions. Thus, the aim of this project is to observe naturalistic conversations with digital assistants by older adults to assess user preferences toward these interactions, with the overall goal of providing design recommendations and guidelines to improve the efficacy of these human-technology dialogs.
